- Metal powders: mechanical process/ mechanical alloying, atomisation process, chemical process, electrochemical process
- Ceramic powders: oxide and non-oxide ceramic powders, whiskers
- POWDER CHARACTERISTICS AND PROPERTIES
- Particle shapes and size, particle size classification methods, surface analysis, powder flowability, apparent and tap density
- POWDER COMPACTION AND SHAPING
- Cold compaction methods, hot compaction methods, isostatic pressing methods, powder injection moulding, roll compaction, extrusion, spray forming, pressureless shaping, etc.
- SINTERING FUNDAMENTALS
- Definition, driving forces, stages of sintering, multi-component sintering, sintering aids/ additives, liquid phase sintering, sintering kinetics
- SINTERING TECHNIQUES
- Pressureless sintering, pressure-assisted sintering (hot press, HIP, SPS, microwave), sintering equipment, sintering atmospheres

About the Instructor: Prof. Bharat Panigrahi, is a professor in the Department of Materials Science and Metallurgical Engineering. He has extensive experience of more than 25 years in the field of PM. He core-expertise are in powder metallurgy and additive manufacturing processes.
No pre-requisite, but basic knowledge of materials would be helpful.
Assessment may consist of assignments &/or quizzes &/viva &/or exams.
